Primož Roglič pulls out of Tour de France, citing injury
Jumbo-Visma’s Primož Roglič will not start stage 15 of the Tour de France, his team has announced.
Roglič has been nursing injuries from a crash on stage 5, when he was taken down by a hay bale that was pulled into the road by a TV motorcycle. He had to pop a dislocated shoulder back in on the side of the road.
“To allow my injuries to heal properly, we have decided that I won’t start,” he said in a press release.
Roglič entered the Tour as co-leader with Jonas Vingegaard, who currently holds the yellow jersey. The early crash and time losses had him outside the top 10 by the time the race hit the Alps, but he played a key role in the tactical manuevering that put his teammate Vingegaard into the yellow jersey on the Col du Granon.
“I’m proud of my contribution to the current standings and I trust that the team will realise our yellow and green ambitions,” Roglič said. “Thanks to everybody for your great support.”
