Preview: What you need to know about stage 7 of the 2022 Vuelta a España
Date: Friday August 26
Start: Camargo
Finish: Cisitierna
Distance: 190 km
The course profile for this one is a little peculiar. The riders starts out in the lowlands near the Cantabrian coast before tackling a long climb into the hills halfway through the stage.
That climb is listed in the road book as 22.4 km at 5.5% but as you can see from the profile, the road actually trends upwards for more than 50 km in the middle of the stage. From the top of that climb the route is downhill and flat into the finish in Cistierna.
We’ll also get the first sight of Remco Evenepoel in the red jersey and maybe the first hints of whether Quick-Step AlphaVinyl have the team to assist his GC ambitions. Will they let a ‘safe’ break go and allow another team to relieve them of the race lead?
Who’s it for: Probably the breakaway.
