Moots goes integrated with the new Vamoots CRD
The trend toward hiding cables within new dropbar bikes is moving faster than a bunch sprint. Today, titanium bike manufacturer Moots announced its first integrated road bike – the Vamoots CRD.
The new Vamoots CRD (Complete Road Design) is the latest and greatest road model from the company based in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The CRD is Moot’s first foray into concealed cables, and it does so with a disc-specific and electronic-shifting-only design. To achieve the disappearing act, the company has adopted Enve’s integrated cockpit, matching round steerer fork, and a classic-looking external Chris King Aero 3 headset that presses into a 44 mm headtube.
With round tubes throughout, Moots is making no claims related to aerodynamic performance gains. Rather, the company admits the shift to integration is mostly an aesthetic decision, with Moots putting its “most modern foot forward for strictly pavement pursuits”. Moots will continue to offer its other models for those keen on more traditional designs with exposed cabling.
While it may not be particularly aero, it’s certainly not lacking in the usual fine detail expected of the company. The double-butted RSL frame tubes meet with 3D-printed titanium dropouts at the rear, while a T47 bottom bracket shell is used to keep the rear brake hose and Di2 wires (if applicable) concealed until exiting at the chainstays. Moots expect a 56 cm frame to weigh just under 1,400 grams.
While there’s room for up to 32 mm rubber, Moots has optimised geometry figures around 28-30 mm widths.
The CRD is available to order now with the first production run due to ship in January. Complete bike prices start from US$13,086 (~$19,500 AUD / €12,670 / £11,100).
