The Road Ahead: CyclingTips, VeloNews and Peloton

The Road Ahead: CyclingTips, VeloNews and Peloton

I wanted to reach out to the CyclingTips community and let you know our editorial plans for 2023 and beyond.

There was a moment a few years ago that I thought about today. I was at the base of the Gavia in Italy. We had climbed the Stelvio the day before, and the next day we tackled the Mortirolo. We then rode maybe 30km to the base of the Gavia climb, and we were stopping for sandwiches and coffee as a group. I noticed the #KeepGoing tattoo on my friend Molly’s arm and asked about the inspiration. She told me that a friend had given it to her to remind Molly of their mutual riding partner who was battling cancer. I’d suffered on the previous climb and had been thinking of turning around, but decided in that moment to get back on my bike and continue with the group.

The past few months have been challenging in the media and tech space globally. I’m hoping this note will give you insight into where we are headed at Outside and at CyclingTips and VeloNews moving forward.

I started Peloton magazine in 2010 determined to create a brand that reflected my deep love for cycling. I believe bikes can heal you. I set out to build the best team in cycling and publish print and video content that connected with our community and made us proud. I wanted our team to be a step above in terms of design and aesthetics and inspiration. We made things and told stories that we loved. We rode our bikes every day (almost).

I was excited when Peloton joined Outside in 2021 because it gave our writers and staff a larger platform and more support. We wanted more people to know about our brand and storytelling. I also wanted us to be part of a company where we could learn, grow and be a larger force in getting more people to fall in love with bikes.

As the recently appointed Editorial Director of the Road/Gravel group at Outside, I want you to know the ethos of our content will honor the best of CyclingTips and VeloNews. There will be more video and storytelling. More inclusivity and acceptance. More e-bikes. More gear and bike reviews. More content that will inspire a new cyclist to sign up for her first gravel race. We will celebrate our differences and encourage more people to fall in love with riding bikes. We will keep going.

We have an incredible team of journalists, writers and creators in the Outside Cycling Group, and these 28 colleagues will each play an instrumental role in shaping our brands and content in the years to come.

We are motivated and inspired to be the best cycling media group in the world, and we will do that as one team.

I hope you continue to join us on this journey,

– Brad Roe
