More rainbows for Norway as Wærenskjold wins U23 men's Worlds TT
WOLLONGONG, Australia (CT) – A day after Tobias Foss took a surprise win in the elite men’s time trial at Wollongong Worlds, Søren Wærenskjold has doubled up for Norway in the U23 men’s event.
The 22-year-old built into his 28.8 km effort nicely, posting the third-fastest time at the opening time check, the second-fastest time at the second check, and the best time at the finish line.
He was joined on the podium by silver medallist Alec Segaert (Belgium), fastest at the first check, and bronze medalist Leo Hayter (Great Britain) who sat in the hot seat for an extended period before being ejected by Wærenskjold.
Segaert looked to have Wærenskjold’s time covered late in the day, but faded in the closing kilometres to finish 16 seconds behind Wærenskjold.
Wærenskjold came to Worlds following a stage win at the recent Tour de l’Avenir and victory in the U23 time trial at Norwegian nationals earlier this year. Since 2021 he has raced with ProTeam Uno-X where he is contracted until the end of next year. He was fourth in this event in Flanders last year.
More to come …
