Matt White is the new Director of High Performance and Racing at BikeExchange-Jayco

After eleven years as Head Sports Director for GreenEDGE, Matt White has been promoted to the role of ‘Director of High Performance & Racing,’ an area which, according to General Manager, Brent Copeland, “needs more attention to detail.”

“There are few people within professional cycling with the level of experience that ‘Whitey’ has,” Copeland said in a team press release on Tuesday. “As an organisation, we are continuously looking for improvements all-round and this new role will help us improve in many of the team’s performance areas, so it is definitely a new and exciting approach for us.”

“As an organisation always looking to evolve by improving and refining its practices, my new role as Director of High Performance and Racing will enable me to work across the high-performance spectrum in both the men’s and women’s teams,” White said. “We have some new Sport Directors and performance staff joining both teams in 2023 and I will be able to assist them to grow and develop their skills in our team’s unique culture.”

The move will have White overseeing both the men’s and women’s WorldTour teams.

“The role change presents more opportunities for people to step up and lead at different races, and I am really looking forward to working more with the women’s team compared to previous years, to continue their team growth and evolution.”

Three new directors will also join the BikeExchange-Jayco organization in 2023. The women’s side will see a jump from one director to three with 24-year-old British former racer Megan Chard and Canadian Shawn Clarke joining the current women’s director Martin Vestby while Rafael Valls steps in on the men’s team.

“We are just as excited to also be welcoming a new sport director to the men’s team and two new sport directors to the women’s team. Having Megan and Shawn joining us in the women’s team brings a huge amount of enthusiasm, motivation as well as extra resources, which is important for us to balance the workload between all staff members involved in the performance area,” said Copeland.

Both squads will get their 2023 seasons underway at the men’s and women’s Tour Down Under from the 15th of January.
