Allan Shaw remembers a beautiful sunrise while riding his bike in a remote part of Puebla, Mexico, a few hundred kilometers outside Mexico City. Then, nothing at all.
A severe accident would leave him staring down a long journey of healing, one that he had never before faced in his life.
“I prided myself for so long on not having a serious accident,” he told The Daily Rally podcast. Suddenly that was no longer the case for the bike messenger, who also runs an LGBTQ+ positive cycling brand called Gay’s Okay Cycling.
But little by little he retuned to his former self.
By embracing a mantra of “a couple degrees flex on the knee every day,” Shaw has now been able to take on one of the biggest endurance tests available to cyclists in North America.
